Yep. My take as a Democrat is don’t impeach. Because if we do, here is what’ll likely happen:

A) F ails Senate trial, Trump stays in office. Trump gets to say this was all a witch hunt and will very likely get a second term.

B) Trump is removed from office and is replaced with Pence. Pence now has until the beginning of 2021 to push his agenda through. I bet Pence can do more damage in a year than Trump could do with four.

As much as it sucks and it feels like Trump is basically getting away with murder, I don't think impeachment is a risk worth taking.

I think Pence is much less dangerous. He’d appoint bad judges, and try to pass a bad agenda, but I don’t think he’s anywhere near as likely to undermine norms or institutions in the way Trump has been. And I think he’d have an even harder time being elected. Frankly he should be secretly courting GOP S enators who might like him more than Trump, he wouldn’t need to recruit that many.
